Sneaker Authentication Guide: How to Verify Authentic Sneakers

Tips to Avoid Buying Counterfeit Sneakers

With over 8 years of experience in the sneaker industry, I've learned a few tricks to make sure you don't buy counterfeits.

I share them with you here and in the form of a tutorial on Instagram

1. Smell, an often overlooked clue

Smell is an often underestimated but very effective aspect in determining the authenticity of a pair. Indeed, fake sneakers give off a strong chemical glue smell that can literally sting the nose, unlike authentic models which have a more subtle smell.

2. Beware of offers that are too good to be true

If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Be wary of unusually low prices, as they often hide counterfeits. Always check the seller's reviews and stick to reputable sources.

3. Authentication Limitations for Consumer Models

For most consumer models, it is difficult to be 100% sure of their authenticity. Counterfeiters sometimes have access to the same production facilities as Nike, which allows them to create very convincing 1:1 replicas. To be on the safe side, compare several specific details of the model with an authentic pair.

4. Use specialized applications

Apps like CheckCheck allow you to obtain a certificate that is recognized worldwide for a few francs and a few photos. These apps analyze the precise characteristics of your sneakers, offering additional expertise.

5. Examine the box and logo details

The original box and logos are often telltale signs. A poor quality box or poorly printed logos can give away a counterfeit. Always compare the details with an authentic pair and check the product codes on the brand's official website.

6. Join online communities

Forums and specialist groups can be invaluable resources for learning how to spot fake pairs. Community feedback can help you make informed choices.
